ORGANS OF SPEECH: PHONETICS

 PHONETICS: ORGANS OF SPEECH

Phonetics is the science of studying correct articulation of sounds in language. Human beings produce two types of sounds – consonants and vowels. To produce these sounds, we need to use different organs of speech.

The following chart shows these organs of speech.

There are two cavities – oral and nasal. Some sounds are produced from oral cavities and some other sounds are produced from nasal cavity.

Lips, teeth, tongue, palate, alveolar ridge, uvula, vocal cords, glottis and nose are the most important organs of speech to articulate the sounds.
