He was the national poet of Scotland.
He is thought to have authored a number of poetical works, but the only
surviving work by him in today’s time is ‘Bruce’.
‘BRUCE’:
It is a long narrative poem written
in about 14000 octosyllabic lines. It is full of patriotism, romantic and
heroism. It is an epic based on the recent history of Scotland. It narrates the
heroic actions of Bruce, the national hero. The poem expresses the spirit of
independence among the Scottish people. All actions revolve around the
character Bruce who plays a major role in gaining independence of Scotland.
